Just Because I am Young...

I've heard it said time and time again that young people lack the experience to have something important to say. And as a young person, I don't want to hold my tongue anymore.

I was blessed to have parents, grandparents, psuedo-parents and others older than me that have encouraged me to say what I am thinking, that have encouraged me by expressing that my thoughts and experiences are important.

As a 23-year-old young woman, childless, spouseless, I understand that there is a lot left to experience in this short length of eternity that we call "life." But that doesn't mean that my experiences so far aren't something that everyone can learn something from.

Just because I am young doesn't mean I can't think. Not only can I think, but I can think clearly. In fact, I have thought since the second my soul entered my body in my mother's womb. Those thoughts have, of course, grown and become more of a morality and rhetoric than an obsession with survival. But I am not too young to think, and I am not too young to think about important things.

Just because I am young doesn't mean I don't have anything important to say. In fact, I think that sometimes people my age say the most important things. I mean, we are the people that you're leaving behind when you leave this earth, correct? Yes, you believe you are leaving the world better than you found it, but we need you to leave it in a place where we can find it. What is important to us, what matters to us and the way that it matters, should matter just as much to you. If you leave behind what you believe to be treasure, you need us to have the map.

Just because I am young doesn't mean I can't love. Just because I don't have children to love doesn't mean I don't know how to love. I love in a way that makes sense to me, and sometimes in a way that doesn't. But I know that I love. I love in a way that makes me give myself to the things and the people that I love. All that's left of me sometimes is that love.

"Just because I am young"... That means nothing.

"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

1 Timothy 4:12
